How would "once upon a time, there was a little boy called Hervé" go? What story would it tell us?
Once upon a time there was a little boy who didn't speak too much, but who looked a lot with his eyes. He discovered that many artists had a lot of fun with their eyes and he wanted to try it too.
How did you find yourself in the pages of picture books?
By going to schools, leisure centers and hospitals, etc... by discovering that books could live and that they had a meaning, a utility. That professionals, teachers, librarians needed books for their daily life with children and that the more creative they were, the more horizons they opened up.
When you create a story, do you ever try to transform the little child who will be delighted with your illustrations? If so, how and what is your main purpose?
The book is an experience, an experience of reading and engaging that is shared between an adult and a child. With the book in the library, all the senses can be engaged in reading.
If you could choose any existing book, which one would you have liked to have written/illustrated yourself?
“What Do People Do All Day” by Richard Scarry. I think we need to understand a little more about the world we live in.
If given the chance, who would you hug today?
Miles Davis but apparently he was not an easy guy, but such a good musician.

Como seria o "Era uma vez um menino chamado Hervé”? Que história nos contaria?
Era uma vez um rapazinho que não falava muito, mas que observava muito com os seus olhos. Ele descobriu que muitos artistas se divertiam muito com os olhos e também quis experimentar.
Como foste parar às páginas de um livro infantil?
Indo a escolas, centros de lazer e hospitais, etc... ao descobrir que os livros tinham vida e um significado, uma utilidade. Que os profissionais, professores, bibliotecários precisavam de livros para a sua vida diária com as crianças e que quanto mais criativo fossem, mais horizontes se abriam.
Quando crias uma história, tentas transformar a criança que vai deliciar-se com as tuas ilustrações? Se sim, de que forma e qual o teu principal propósito?
O livro é uma experiência, uma experiência de leitura e de envolvimento que é partilhada entre um adulto e uma criança. Com o livro na biblioteca, todos os sentidos podem estar envolvidos na leitura.
Dada a possibilidade de escolher qualquer um, que livro gostarias de ter escrito e ilustrado?
“What Do People Do All Day” de Richard Scarry. Acho que precisamos de compreender um pouco mais o mundo em que vivemos.
